Shop for a Good Cause - Klothes Lime 11/13

Shop for a Good Cause. Klothes Lime Buy-Sell-Trade Fashion is hosting a charity benefit for Latinitas on November 13. Shop for women's and men's clothing between 10:00am to 7:00pm and 50% of proceeds from the resale fashion boutique will be donated to support Latinitas' girl empowerment programs. You can help by spreading the word about the benefit and shopping 'til you drop.  Volunteers are also needed to help represent Latinitas at our information table at the event.  We will also host a yard sale of furniture, appliances, kids' toys and more outside in the Klothes Lime parking lot starting at 7:00 am.  Have fun shopping, buy stylish clothes and make a difference in a girls' life.  For more information call 915.256.5942. Do you have some stuff that you don't need anymore? Do a housecleaning and get rid of your unwanted items. Latinitas will host a community yard sale fundraiser in front of Klothes Lime boutique on November 13th starting at 7:00am. Items for sale include: furniture, appliances, kitchen items, electronics, art, linens, baby items, toys, stuffed animals and various household items. All items in good condition. Latinitas is currently accepting donations of items. Volunteers are also needed to help with setting-up our yard sale, pricing, selling, promoting and breaking-down. Chalk The Block - Help Create a Mural 10/9

Latinitas will be a featured youth artist team in the Chalk the Block Festival on October 9th. As part of these festivities, downtown El Paso will be transformed into an art canvas with artists and the general public invited to create chalk artwork on the sidewalks of the Plaza Theater and surrounding area. Our team of youth artists will be creating a chalk mural representing Latinitas. Volunteers are needed to assist with filling in our mural (guided by our lead artist - no artistic training needed) and to distribute information material about Latinitas. Teen Leadership Institute

Latinitas is hosting a Teen Leadership Institute to offer leadership, civic engagement, social justice, advocacy and media training for high school girls. Through monthly workshops, high school girls will build leadership skills and get inspired to make a difference in their community. Would you like to mentor young girls? We are currently recruiting female volunteers to serve as mentors in our girl empowerment programs. Internship Applications Accepted


Latinitas, Inc. is seeking editorial, multimedia, public relations/ marketing, fundraising, graphic design, web design and educational outreach interns. Latinitas is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and empowerment of Latina youth. Through media, art, culture and technology, Latinitas strives to encourage and educate young Latinas to build confidence and succeed. The group executes its mission by publishing a bilingual digital magazine by and for Hispanic girls, facilitating after-school programs for middle school girls, hosting girl empowerment events, mentoring aspiring high-school writers and hosting innovative multimedia workshops in the community.

Interns are responsible for a wide variety of tasks and experience much of the process of putting together magazine issues, marketing strategies, publicity campaigns, fundraising projects or girl empowerment programs. Interns are needed to assist in developing content for LatinitasMagazine.org, accomplishing Latinitas marketing needs, publicizing its programs, developing fundraising initiatives, garnering community exposure and leading events aimed at empowering girls. This is a great opportunity to be published in a growing magazine or be an integral part of the development of a non-profit organization!

The internships are unpaid, but many interns arrange to receive academic and/or service learning credits for their work through their school.  We are very willing to coordinate with such programs. Latina Author's Fiesta - September 18

Latinitas is partnering with EPCC to host a FREE writing workshop led by nationally renowned Latina authors from across the country. As part of the EPCC Author's Fiesta, three published Latina authors - Christine Granados, Claudia Guadalupe Martinez, and Beatriz Terrazas - will host a writing workshop just for members of Latinitas.  These three Chicana/Latina writers will share helpful advice about getting published, guide creative writing exercises that will generate ideas for future writing projects and participate in a reading performance.  Volunteers are needed to help with sign in, assist our guest speakers, distribute workshop materials, aid participants, engage in group discussion and serve as positive role models for youth.  Volunteers are needed from 8am to 11am. Semillas de Paz Rally & Art Show - August 26

Latinitas has been invited to participate in this multimedia art event focused on promoting peace and bringing awareness to the violence in Juarez. Saturday Camp Volunteers Needed

Latinitas is seeking volunteer assistance with our Saturday Camps.  This is a series of monthly creative expression workshops focused on encouraging girls to build confidence and discover their voice and creativity.  These are fun, girl-friendly activities geared towards pre-teens.  We are looking for volunteers who can commit 2-4 hours per month on a Saturday morning or afternoon to help guide these activities.  We provide the training, an outline of each activity and all the materials.  You don't need prior media or art experience - just experience and an interest in working with young girls.  To volunteer, contact Alicia at latinitaselpaso@yahoo.com or 915.239.5051.

Diablos Game Fundraiser

Diablos Tickets – As a fundraiser to support our scholarship fund, Latinitas is selling Diablos baseball game tickets at $6.00 per ticket. Fuerza Femenina Festival Planning Team

Members of our teen leadership institute are working on a group community service project. The group has chosen to host a girl empowerment conference in November geared at promoting leadership among middle school girls. The conference will offer educational workshops for middle school girls and their moms. We need assistance with finding a donated venue for the event as well as helping fundraise and secure donations of lunch, snacks, goodie bags, and prizes. Volunteers are also needed to aid with coordinating the adult portion of the conference to recruit guest speakers for presentations geared towards mothers and informational exhibits. Fashion Show – Latinitas is currently forming a planning committee to organize a benefit fashion show that would support Latinitas free after-school programs for disadvantaged girls. Latinitas Field Day - 6/5

Latinitas is hosting a Field Day for girls enrolled in our after-school programs.  This end of the year celebration will bring girls together for an afternoon of swimming, games and summer activities at Armijo Park from 1-4pm on Saturday, June 5th.   Volunteers are needed to serve as chaperones and guide team games such as relay races, water balloon fights, hoola hoop contests and more.  To volunteer, contact Latinitas at 239.5051 or latinitaselpaso@yahoo.com.

Mentors Wanted

Latinitas is partnering with local groups to offer creative expression workshops for young girls.  We are seeking volunteers who are willing to lead multimedia art and culture workshops aimed at helping girls build confidence. Volunteers are asked to dedicate 2 hours per month to lead a monthly workshop for local housing centers, shelters, schools, community centers, church groups, girl scouts troops, and youth groups. Latinitas reserves the location, recruits the girls and provides all the activities, training, equipment and materials.  Volunteers must be prepared to be good role models and mentors for girls. Global Youth Service Day: April 23-25

Latinitas has joined the international movement - Global Youth Service Day. This is the largest service event in the world and mobilizes millions of children and youth who improve their communities through service-learning. On GYSD, Latinitas members will help address the world’s most critical issues through youth-led community service projects.

Amigas in Action
Each of our clubs will be participating in the Amigas in Action Project, an initiative that engages youth in researching community needs, organizing volunteer projects to address these issues and creating media projects about their service learning experience as part of a public awareness campaign.

GYSD Celebration
Latinitas is a part of the planning team for the El Paso GYSD Celebration.  This event is aimed at celebrating local youth volunteers who have made a difference in their community and encouraging more teens to get involved in volunteerism.  Volunteers are needed to represent Latinitas at our information table and lead teen-friendly activities at our booth.  To volunteer, contact us at 239.5051 or latinitasaly@yahoo.com.

School Supply Drive
As part of the  GSYD, volunteer groups across the city are invited to join Latinitas in a school supply drive throughout April to benefit area disadvantaged children. Donations can be dropped off at 1359 Lomaland Suite 502.

Take a Stand to Help Women
Latinitas volunteers will hold a donation drive for La Posada Home which helps homeless women and their children who have suffered abuse or abandonment. Volunteers are collecting donations of clothing for women and children, furniture, appliances, food, toys, kitchen supplies and educational supplies. Donations can be dropped off at 1359 Lomaland Suite 502.

The Parks and Recreation Department is continuing the annual tradition of celebrating the youth of El Paso with the Dia de los Ninos festival. The festival has two primary goals: to promote the importance of literacy and education and to create a family event that people of all cultures and backgrounds to enjoy. Volunteers are needed to guide literacy-focused projects for kids at the Latinitas activity and information table as part of the festival.

LULAC Conference for Women - 3/27

Latinitas has been invited to host an information table at the upcoming LULAC Conference for Women. As part of International Women’s Day, The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) District IV, in collaboration with El Paso Community College Diversity Programs, will present the 4th annual “LULAC Women’s Conference” from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Saturday, March 27 in the Auditorium of Building A at EPCC’s Administrative Services Center, 9050 Viscount. This year’s theme is “Empowering Latinas Through Education to be Healthy, Wealthy and Wise.” Special guest speakers include Rep. Loretta Sánchez, California and Norma Cantú, law professor, UT Austin and former cabinet member in the Clinton Administration. Strong Women, Strong Futures Conference Volunteers Wanted

Latinitas has been invited to present a workshop on self-esteem and body image for the upcoming "Strong Women, Strong Futures" conference hosted by the Socorro Independent School District. The audience will be girls in grades 6 through 12 and their mothers. We will host hands-on girl empowerment workshops for 30 girls in 2 workshop sessions from 10:00 am to 12:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to assist with helping girls with hands-on projects, guiding small group activities, distributing materials and mentoring participants.
