If one of your New Year's resolutions is to get more involved in your community and make a difference, then we have the perfect project for you. Join a group of leaders who are committed to promoting the participation of Hispanic women in civic arenas. The Alliance for Latinitas was formed as a volunteer arm of Latinitas to bring women together to address issues unique to young Hispanas. This community of Latinas actively work to advance the well-being of Hispanic girls through leadership development, mentoring, volunteerism and philanthropy. We are currently recruiting committees members to assist with marketing, public relations, event planning, fundraising, membership and volunteer recruitment. The Alianza achieves this goal by organizing fundraising events and projects to provide educational scholarships and stipends for low-income girls to participate in Latinitas programs and attain their educational goals. We believe that by women coming together in a spirit of corroboration, we can make a difference in the lives of local girls! Find out how you can get involved, by attending our next meeting. MENTOR A GIRL

On-Going Opportunity
5-10 hour Monthly Commitment
Greater El Paso Region

January is National Mentoring Month. Make a difference in a girl's life as part of the new Latinitas Amigitas Project in 2009. National Mentoring Month highlights mentoring and the positive impact it can have on young lives. This month-long outreach campaign focuses national attention on the need for mentors, as well as how each of us can work together to assure brighter futures for our young people. In conjunction with this national celebration, Latinitas is launching the Amigitas Project, a volunteer-driven initiative focused on connecting young Latinas with role models and mentors. Latinitas Volunteers will receive training to coordinate Amigitas clubs in our neighboring communities of Las Cruces, Canutillo, Tornillo and more. Volunteers must undergo a background check. Mentors will meet with a small group of girls on a monthly basis to lead girl empowerment workshops focused on encouraging young Latinas to express themselves and build confidence. Volunteers must commit to leading one 4 hour club gathering a month for an entire year. For more information, email
