We are seeking volunteers to help girls express themselves creatively through our bimonthly multimedia camps. Volunteers are needed to serve as workshop assistants and mentor girls the second and fourth Saturday of every month. On June 27, Latinitas will host a video making workshop at La Fe Cultural Center downtown. Volunteers will handout materials, assist girls with activities, help presenters and answer girls' questions. To sign up, email latinitasaly@yahoo.com.

Latinitas College Day - June 11

Latinitas is hosting a media college and college day for aspiring high school journalists. We are bring a group of teens to tour the UTEP campus, listen to a panel of media professionals and meet college students. We are seeking professional media producers to serve on a panel to share their industry experience. Community members interested in learning more about Latinitas are invited to attend a volunteer training session. Volunteers can come by for a :30minute orientation anytime between 4-7pm. Volunteers will learn more about the organization’s goals and needs, meet leaders from Latinitas, and get answers to your burning questions. We will help you identify the most effective volunteer role for you within our volunteer teams. RSVP required at least 24hours in advance. Latinitas is currently accepting applications for election to the Executive Board of the Alliance for Latinitas. Through marketing and fundraising efforts, Executive Board members support our mission of empowering Latina youth through media and technology. Board members normally serve two-year terms. Experience in nonprofit fundraising, marketing and/or accounting is highly desirable. Candidates should have past community leadership experience. Candidates must be able to attend monthly meeting, participate in all board activities, and must be willing to serve on at least one board committee. Girl Empowerment Festival

On May 7th, the El Paso community will host its second annual Girl Empowerment Festival, a gathering for middle school girls in the El Paso community.  This event will address issues such as body image, self-esteem, dating violence, sexual assault victim rights, wellness, peer pressure, substance abuse, media literacy, cultural identity, and teen pregnancy prevention through workshops, art, poetry and song. The event is presented by: Arte Sana, El Paso County Attorney's Office, Girl Scouts Rio Grande Council, Health & Human Services Commission-Office of Border Affairs, Latinitas, Rio Grande Safe Communities Coalition, Texas A&M University Prevention Resource Center, Thomason Hospital Women's Health Center.  Girls must pre-register by March 27th.  For more information, email girlempowermentfestival@yahoo.com or visit www.LatinitasMagazine.org.
